The best garden solutions usually arise out of combining wild and garden plants. This allows me to make my garden creations resistant to more extreme weather events, as well as highlight the fortes of numerous cultivated plants in order to infuse my designs with the aesthetic caress that the human eye craves so very much.
The final plant selection is inspired by nature and enables me to provide each garden with the best possible design.

At the request of investors in a new settlement of row houses, together with Mina Lunder and Daša Novak, we began to outline and prepare a flexible proposal for gardens arrangements, which can be easily adapted to wishes of individual home owners. Greening a Dull Parking LotRead more
I have a slightly different project underway than I am used to. The client wanted to improve a very dull sandy parking lot in a small Slovenian town. Since the parking lot is located along the main road through town, I decided to plant a shorter avenue in this part and lean on tradition, while […]
Small Front Yard in ViennaRead more
Smallness can be a disadvantage or an advantage, but it certainly means careful consideration for the garden designer. When I have to put a bit more content than I would like to on a small space, I usually turn to one “fundamental” or leading element, and in this case, this will be a trimmed yew. […]
Inviting Matic Sever to participate in a project of landscape, garden or architecture is a source of joy and enrichment. Few landscapers I have worked with also share their vision of the project, such erudition and great humility!
The enthusiasm of Matic Sever about nature in Slovenia is infectious. When I was there with some colleagues, he showed us many beautiful places. Nice woodlands, a meadow with Iris sibirica, grasslands full of flowers and insects, near the road we saw also precious ‘rock gardens’. It must be fantastic to see the Cotinus and Salvia in autumn, even the woods. So we have to go back once in Autumn! His book about plants for dry situations is at this moment very topical, it must be translated into English, I think.
It seems that Matic’ creativity and knowledge of plants know no boundaries. He considered our wishes, but didn’t let them limit him and so his ideas contributed to a wonderful result. We also appreciated the different options he provided, together with pros and cons as well as images and drawings of his ideas for each one. This helped us get a very good idea of the final look of the garden, even before it was set up.
Loyal, friendly and a knowledge way beyond my expertise!
